Oyster Bay High School held a special ribbon cutting and unveiling ceremony of new spaces for learning and growth on the evening of Friday, May 10.

A professional broadcast studio, cOllaB space and innovation lab were open for all attendees to walk around the state-of-the-art rooms that were designed by BBS Architects, Landscape Architects and Engineers.

The ceremony also featured a surprise guest in the broadcast studio, former News 12 Anchor, Carol Silva, who was on air with Oyster Bay High School Student-Anchor Grace Curry.

“These new spaces are really incredible,” said Oyster Bay High School Principal Melissa Argaman. “What I love about this school is that you see this almost 100-year-old building and you wouldn’t expect to see a state-of-the-art broadcast studio inside; we combine the new with the old here, and I think that is so special.”

Congratulations to our Vernon Art Students and their dedicated art teacher, Ms. Crowley, on an outstanding art show! We extend a heartfelt thank you to Ms. Paredes and all the parents who generously contributed by assisting in the hanging of over 1,200 pieces of student artwork. Additionally, we celebrate the remarkable achievement of our inaugural inductees into the National Junior. Art Honor Society, marking a historic milestone for Vernon as our first-ever National Honor Society. We are immensely proud of our talented student artists.

Students at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary in Oyster Bay participated in a PARP Read-In on Wednesday, May 8.

The students across grade levels were joined by their chosen adult reading partners as they enjoyed stories, snacks and a craft that involved the students each making their own summer visor with fun, foam stickers.

“I love the parents’ enthusiasm joining in this event that is so wonderful for the children,” said librarian Roseann Davidson. “We have such a nice community.” Mrs. Davidson emphasized how important reading is for the children and how they truly enjoy books.

PARP is a New York State PTA sponsored program and holds reading events throughout the school year to foster a lifelong love of reading in children.
